The establishment of the travelling Watkins salesman dates back to the late 19th century with the establishment of J.R. Watkins America. The concept migrated to the shores of Africa with specific reference to Southern Africa during the 1940’s, which marked the beginning of the African Watkins dream. During the 1950’s Watkins South Africa severed all ties with its American counterpart. Soon thereafter The JR Watkins Company South Africa acquired the reputable cosmetic and skincare company, Valeur Cosmetics. This merger enabled the new enterprise to expand its reach to an extended geographical area in Africa.

The Watkins Valeur brand was unveiled in 1998,
establishing a successful marriage of exceptional
quality products at competitive prices.

Subsequently the Watkins Valeur brand has expanded from its South African shores into the greater part of Africa, boasting with subsidiaries in Botswana and Namibia as well as being represented in other African countries such as Lesotho, Swaziland, Angola, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Mozambique.

Today it may be said that Watkins Valeur has experienced
unimaginable success and is still growing in its entirety,
improving the lives of African women in business.
